Speech therapy services for schools

A speech-language pathologist resigns in October. Another goes on leave in January. The evaluations keep coming, and the timelines don't move. KL Therapy Services helps schools keep speech-language services running when the staffing doesn't line up.

We find licensed speech-language pathologists for public school divisions, charter schools, private schools, and preschools, anywhere in the United States. A placement can be a few hours a week or a full caseload, and you'll have one person to call for all of it: Karlie.

A speech-language pathologist listens as an elementary student points to a picture card on a classroom table.

When schools call us

  • A therapist is going on maternity, medical, or family leave.
  • Something came up suddenly and students need services now.
  • A position is open and the caseload can't wait for a hire.
  • The caseload has grown past what your staff can carry.
  • Evaluations are backing up against their timelines.
  • A rural or hard-to-staff school needs a teletherapy option.

What we do

Leave and emergency coverage

A licensed therapist for the length of a leave or an unexpected gap, overlapping with your outgoing SLP when possible.

Caseload coverage

Direct therapy on site or by teletherapy, for a few hours a week or a full caseload, covering speech sound disorders, language impairments, autism and social communication, AAC needs, and fluency and voice.

Case-manager roles

Therapists who carry the IEP writing, timelines, and progress reporting that come with a caseload.

Evaluations and IEEs

Initial evaluations, reevaluations, and independent educational evaluations.

Teletherapy

Live sessions by video, for schools that can't fill a role on site.

How a placement works

  1. You describe the role. Caseload, grades, schools, schedule, on site or virtual, and the start date.

  2. Karlie finds a candidate. She looks for a licensed SLP who fits the role and the setting.

  3. You can meet them. If you'd like to talk with the candidate first, you can. It's up to you.

  4. Onboarding. The therapist gets set up with your team and your schedule.

  5. Karlie checks in. She stays in touch with you and the therapist, and she's your contact for anything on the business side.

How Karlie finds therapists

Karlie is a school SLP herself, and she finds therapists the way SLPs find each other. She posts open roles in the national and local SLP groups she's part of, and she reaches out through her own professional network and word of mouth. Karlie excels at finding candidates for hard-to-staff positions.

Our therapists

Every therapist we place holds the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) and a license in the state where they work. We verify each license before a placement starts, and we can run a background check on request. Most schools run their own as well.

Our therapists are independent contractors. Your district can enroll the treating therapist to bill Medicaid, just as it would an in-house hire.

On site, by teletherapy, or both

We can place therapists on site wherever there are SLPs willing to work there, and by teletherapy anywhere. Virtual roles can usually be filled quickly. If your students need someone in the room, tell us on the first call, and we'll be honest about what we can staff in your area.

Ways to work together

We'll work with whatever your purchasing rules allow. A short leave or a few hours a week can often be set up through a direct agreement or a purchase order. If your division needs a formal bid, we'll talk through it with you.

Founded by a school SLP

KL Therapy Services was founded by Karlie Libraro, M.S., CCC-SLP, who has worked as a speech-language pathologist since 2015 in public and charter schools, private practices, and outpatient clinics. She has carried a school caseload, written the IEPs, and sat in the eligibility meetings, so she knows what a school team needs from a therapist. We've been serving Virginia schools since 2022.
