Evaluations for schools
Speech-language evaluations and IEEs for schools
The referrals came in faster than your team could test. Now there are evaluations due before winter break, and your SLPs are still carrying full caseloads. Or a parent or legal guardian has asked for an independent educational evaluation, called an IEE, and you need a qualified examiner who isn't on your staff.
KL Therapy Services provides speech-language evaluations, reevaluations, and independent educational evaluations (IEEs) for school teams. In central Virginia, Karlie Libraro, M.S., CCC-SLP, can do them herself. For evaluations elsewhere, or when there are more than she can take on, we bring in a licensed speech-language pathologist we contract with.
Evaluations for your team
We take on initial evaluations and reevaluations so your staff can stay with their caseloads. Each one follows IDEA and your school's process and timelines, and the report is written for the people who'll use it: clear present levels, scores explained in plain language, and recommendations the eligibility team can act on.
The evaluator attends the meeting to go over the results, and that's part of the evaluation.
Independent educational evaluations
When a parent or legal guardian disagrees with a school's evaluation, federal law gives them the right to ask for an independent educational evaluation at public expense (34 CFR 300.502). The school sets the criteria for who can do it, such as the examiner's qualifications and the location, and those criteria match the ones it uses for its own evaluations.
Karlie does speech-language IEEs for school divisions in central Virginia. She isn't part of your staff, the report stands on its own, and she can review the results with the team at the meeting.
What we evaluate
- Speech sounds and articulation
- Receptive and expressive language
- Fluency and voice
Assessments are chosen to fit each student and the question the team is asking.
In person or by video
Karlie's in-person evaluations take place in a private space she rents for testing. Any evaluation can also be done entirely by video, from the testing to the report to the meeting.
Questions schools ask
How fast can you complete an evaluation?
It depends on the number of students and your due dates. Tell us the timelines, and we'll tell you honestly what we can meet.
Do you attend the eligibility meeting?
Yes, in person or by video. It's part of the evaluation.
Can you evaluate students who are learning English?
We don't have a bilingual evaluator on hand right now, but we can look for one. Ask us on the first call.
Who does the evaluation?
In central Virginia, Karlie Libraro, M.S., CCC-SLP, can do the evaluation herself, from the testing to the report to the meeting, and she does every IEE. For other evaluations, we bring in a licensed speech-language pathologist we contract with.
Meet KarlieCan you do an evaluation by video?
Yes. Every part of an evaluation can be done by video, from the testing to the report to the meeting.
Our division has criteria for who can do an IEE. Can you work with them?
The school sets those criteria, and they match the ones it uses for its own evaluations. Send us yours and Karlie will tell you whether she meets them.
