Leave and emergency coverage for school SLPs
A speech-language pathologist on your team is going on leave in March. Or a therapist had to step away on short notice, and you found out on Monday morning. Either way, their students still have IEP minutes, and some of them have annual reviews and reevaluations due while they're out.
KL Therapy Services finds a licensed speech-language pathologist to cover the caseload for as long as you need, whether that's a few weeks, a semester, or the rest of the year. We work with public school divisions, charter schools, private schools, and preschools anywhere in the United States.
What coverage includes
The covering therapist takes on the caseload as it stands:
- direct therapy on the existing schedule and IEP minutes;
- IEP meetings, annual reviews, and progress reports due during the leave;
- evaluations and reevaluations on their timelines;
- communication with families, teachers, and your special education team.
Every therapist we place holds the ASHA CCC-SLP and a license in the state where they work. We verify the license before they start, and we can run a background check on request.
When to call
As soon as you know. A few months' notice gives us the most options for on-site coverage, which depends on the time of year and your area. Virtual coverage can usually be arranged quickly, so call even if the leave starts soon.
Overlap where we can
The caseload goes better when it changes hands carefully. When it's possible, the covering therapist overlaps with your outgoing SLP before the leave starts, to go over students, schedules, and upcoming meetings.
On site or by teletherapy
We can cover a leave on site or by teletherapy, depending on your students and your location. Teletherapy is often the fastest option for a sudden gap or a school that's hard to staff in person.
How it's set up
There's no minimum length. Coverage can be contracted however your division is able to, whether that's a direct agreement, a purchase order, or something else your business office uses. Karlie is your contact for the paperwork and checks in with you and the therapist throughout.
Tell us the dates
Send us the dates and the caseload, and Karlie will tell you what we can do. You don't have to have every detail worked out before you reach out.
